What is in a name?

Each time we have a child, it gets harder to name them. We only have 11 days until baby girl Hamilton is born and she has no name. Here is part of our problem. . .

Garth's Criteria

No seasons (Spring, Summer)

No months (May, June)

No jewels or stones (Pearl, Opal)

No Christian values (Hope, Charity, Chastity)

No bad associations with kids from school.

My Criteria

Not a fan of unisex names.

No creative spellings (like Jennifer spelled Genyphur)

Must go with the family middle name I have chosen.

No bad associations with kids I've coached/taught

We have narrowed it down to a few but we are having a hard time agreeing on one.
Our top choices are. . .

Layla Sharon

Claire Sharon

Cherise Lynn

Olivia Sharon

Last time, Derek made the list the week before surgery so it is possible that it could be something totally different. Who knows?

Do you want opinions? If not, you're getting mine anyway, of course you can always disregard it. I like both Layla and Claire. And P.S. Sadie's middle name is June. I'm totally offended Garth!

I think you should go with Cherise Lynn that is my sister's exact name and we were like family growing up! I also love the name Claire!

I live Olivia and Claire. I can't believe you only have 11 days left! Actually now, probably only 10!

I loved your example of normal names spelled strangely! I've never understood that. If you want a unique name, just choose a unique name?

I really like all the names you have and must say that Grandma is going to love that you're using her name. She' extra tender towards all her greats and will be honored to have one named after her.

(I assume she's the Sharon you are referring to?)

Good luck with your baby and all the festivities around Jordie's wedding. We really wish we could be there!

Well, you know how I am about language...I choose Layla Sharon because it has two syllables and a Y like Sydney. I love it when families employ names with the same amount of syllables for each of the genders (I even did my senior research project at BYU on that subject...nerd alert!), but I think all of the names are cute. Good luck! :)

I think with Sydney and (I think this is right?) Dereck, you should go with Olivia Sharon. I am a fan of making all your children's names match each other and I think Olivia matches the best.

I can't believe you are due so soon! Love all the names. Claire is one of our girl names, so of course I like that one. But I really like Layla too, very cute! Good luck in the coming days/weeks! We wish we could see you all for Jordan's wedding. His fiance seems like a cutie!
