Sydney’s team had a cool opportunity to go to Portland for a competition/workshop. We hopped in the car friday morning with her friends Kyleigh and Makenna. We were ahead of schedule so we stopped at Multnomah Falls on the way…SO beautiful!
The competition was Friday night and they did really well. It was a little different ball game than we are used to. Many of these big city teams are a lot more serious about dance than little Spokane!
Saturday began workshops. She got to take Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop. She loved the contemporary with Andrew.
The best part about this convention was that it was loaded with choreographers/dancers from the show So You Think You Can Dance. We are big fans so we were super excited about some of the people she got to meet. One of the most fun workshops was Jazz taught by Mandy Moore (choreographer) and assisted by Melanie Moore (winner of season 9) I snuck a couple of pictures while they were teaching…shhh.
After Saturday workshops we headed to the Portland Zoo. It was a nice change of pace and Sydney had fun doing some photography of the animals.
Sunday there were more workshops and I was super proud of Sydney that she made the decision to skip them and go to church. This was the chapel in downtown Portland. I drove right past it because it was so unlike any LDS church I’ve ever seen. I thought it was so beautiful!
After church we headed to the temple to walk the grounds and we spent some time in their wonderful visitor’s center until it was time to pick up her friends and head back home. It was such a fun weekend together. I love one on one parenting!
Before we took off, we did sneak into the Senior room and grab a photo with Mia Michaels. I am a huge fan. She is a grammy winning choreographer and teaches her students so much more than dance. She was truly inspiring to watch!
